What I can do for you

Too often, teaching and learning materials are past their sell by date, don’t reflect the needs of current education policy, don’t match up with target curriculum learning outcomes, don’t match the needs of the outside world - and thus fail to engage teachers and learners alike.

I provide materials that empower teachers in their classroom practice and encourage a learner-centred, active and autonomous classroom environment. I use a gender balanced approach across imagery, character naming, gendered roles and spoken discourse.

English Language Teachers need the wherewithal to provide a dynamic and effective learning experience for their learners.  Learners need materials that they can relate to. Materials that will help them develop the language and skills they need to navigate the world beyond their classroom.

We’re also living in an age where the world is changing rapidly, technology is an every increasing part of our daily lives and being agile and adaptable are essential for success.

Kind words from Charlotte al-Qadi - Commissioning Editor I Project Manager “I’ve worked with Jennifer on a variety of projects and have always found her professional, knowledgeable and very easy to work with. As a consultant, she helped guide a team of authors through the minefield of customising a course for a specific market. Her market knowledge, content skills and calm nature were invaluable. As an author, Jennifer is ready to jump in and get the job done, even when the almost-impossible is being requested. She has the unique ability to be able to work quickly but accurately, leaving the content editor very little to do. This is a blessing for urgent or unexpected authoring needs. Jennifer is a steady pair of hands who knows her markets, knows the pressures of publishing and knows the English language!”

Fiction & Poetry

I always love a good yarn and these days enjoy creating stories for others to enjoy too. I write graded fiction for teens and adults which challenges them to turn the page and find out what happens next! I draw on the places I have lived and worked around the world and the wonderful people I have met along the way.

Recent offerings include 6 short stories (audio books) for an online language learning app in development between Lanlo and Whitehouse of Sound.

I also write poetry for Primary and Secondary and have been featured in several international Coursebooks.

Cultural sensitivities

It’s vital that teaching and learning materials are the best fit for the context in which they are being used. And this includes embracing and respecting cultural norms and sensitivities.

I create teaching and learning content that respects your precious culture - whilst introducing language through engaging local and global themes and topics.

I also offer guidance to writers and publishers on adapting existing materials to specific socio-cultural contexts.

Previous work includes the development of UAE Bridge to Success English 1- 9 and writing and author training on Bridge to Success books 10 - 12.’

Drop me a line to tell me how I can support you in creating culturally appropriate resources.
